David joined with the firm in 1996 as a trainee before becoming a partner in 2003.
He is part of the litigation team and has extensive experience of both criminal and civil practice, and has conducted fatal accident inquiries, employment tribunals and courts-martial. He has a particular interest in continuing professional development and training for his professional clients, running regular seminars and workshops.
In addition to a large personal injury, property litigation and road traffic practice, his additional area of specialisation include media law, care sector law and wildlife and countryside law.
His media law work includes defamation and contempt of court cases and he has been central to the recent changes in contempt of court, both in the more liberal approach now adopted by the courts and in the challenges to restricted reporting orders in courts and tribunals. He advises many of the leading media organisations in Scotland and is also a part-time lecturer in media law at the University of Glasgow.
David also acts for a number of care sector organisations (including the largest in the UK) advising them on all ranges of litigation advice, including sudden deaths, regulatory affairs and health and safety, as well as representing them in prosecutions, FAIs or civil actions.
In addition, he acts for a number rural organisations, in addition to gamekeepers and landowners in relation to their working and leisure pursuits. He advises them in all litigation matters including prosecutions as well as in regulatory matters including firearms and shotgun licensing.
David is married with three sons.
This “old and

print media market. It handles pre-publication and libel
work for a range of titles, but is also expanding its scope
to include advising radio and TV broadcasters in both
Scotland and England.
